Concrete is one of the most widely used building materials throughout the world, and as such, it is in everyone’s best interest to consider more sustainable options. This course provides an overview of the properties of slag cement. Discussion topics include benefits, effects on plastics and hardened concrete, environmental profile including life cycle analysis (LCA) and environmental product declarations (EPDs), and various slag cement applications.

Background: Jay Whitt has served as a technical service engineer in the cement and concrete industry since 2000. His experience has been centered on bringing value to the company and customers along with directing product research and development.
Jay provides technical support for all Lehigh products from five cement manufacturing plants in addition to directing and managing the regional concrete and masonry testing laboratory. Jay manages the innovative portfolio including research, lab testing, and customer implementation and offers support for Slag Cement production testing and technical sales. He earned a bachelor and master degree from The University of Akron where he conducted research with slag cement and received construction experience working for the Ohio Department of Transportation.
