Background: James R. Townsend (Jim) has been involved in the roofing industry for 30 plus years. He began his career on the contracting side of the industry; marketing system design for conventional and metal roof systems. Later he recognized a need to address key issues regarding roofing failure and design deficiencies.
As a past member of the NRCA, Construction Specification Institute (CSI), current member as a Fraternal Member of The American Consultants League, and current member of the Roof Consultants Institute, Jim formed his own forensics firm. He specialized in building envelopes, failure analysis, litigation, and deposition, relative to premature failure of warranted roof systems.
During the last 26 years, Jim has enjoyed a successful career working with the manufacturing industry in sales and the architectural community relative to due diligence and cost avoidance on roof design. As Product Manager for Exceptional Metals, a division of Duro-Last, Inc. Jim works with architects, roofing contractors, and engineers throughout North America pertaining to liabilities associated with specifications for conventional and standing seam roofing as well as perimeter edge metal design in reference to ES 1 (Edge Standard).
